The GreatNonprofits Top-Rated Award is the only award for nonprofits determined by those who have had direct experience with the charitable organization, including donors, volunteers, and recipients. The Top-Rated Nonprofit Award is based on the rating and number of reviews that Cozy Coats for Kids® has received.

We are an elementary school serving 2nd to 5th grades. All of our students qualify for free lunch, many are new to the country, and 22% are being raised by grandparents on fixed incomes who struggle to afford basic needs, in a town with no public transportation. Our students have a 15- to 20-minute wait at the school bus stops in the mornings, where it is freezing and often snowing in winter.
Many of our students had coats with broken zippers or that were too small. As a school, we stopped going outside for recess because not enough kids had coats. I found Cozy Coats for Kids® online. I sent a message, as I have done many times to other organizations, not expecting to hear back. They responded in a day – heard our needs, and committed to sending us 100 coats! One week before Christmas, the coats arrived – beautiful, warm, brand-new coats.
Our students treat those coats with such care. We have seen school attendance rise because parents are not keeping them home due to weather. And because they are in school, they are learning, and they are being fed, and are safe.
When you donate to Cozy Coats for Kids®, you are not just giving a child a coat. With the money that parent saves, you are buying extra groceries, needed medicine, warm socks, gas for the car, or a birthday cake they weren’t going to be able to afford. You’re helping school teachers buy more supplies because we are not pooling our money to buy coats. Most importantly, you are investing in a small person who knows that people out in the world care for them, whose self-esteem grows, and who can wait for the school bus in a brand-new warm coat. Kids never forget that, and our entire school is grateful.
