BOULDER, Colo. (Jan. 16, 2024) — Cozy Coats for Kids® recently delivered free brand-new winter coats to the Detroit Public School Community District, where many of the students live below the poverty level. The district provided coats to those in need, as well as to students who advocated for themselves of their need for a new winter coat. School Counselor Orelia Brown coordinated the order on behalf of the district.

Each child was given the opportunity to order a coat in their favorite color and style. Brown described some of the moments of the coat distribution this way: “The excitement of the students as they tried on their coats and were showcasing them to each other and the other staff in the building – many of the students were very excited about receiving their coats that they wouldn’t even take them off and put them in their lockers.” She continued, “With the biggest smiles, they proudly wore their coats throughout the day. They even came to me the next day, saying, ‘Look at my new coat!’”

Brown also said that participating in CCFK’s Annual Coat Delivery Program contributes to the district’s goals and mission because “a big part of our mission and goal is to try and help the whole student, not just academically. When a student has the proper attire for the weather, it helps meet a basic need, which aligns with our mission.”

The Detroit Public School Community District shared some photos from the coat distribution.
